Ukraine has announced the start of large-scale manufacturing for an innovative domestically developed interceptor drone to strengthen its air defences. The first three manufacturers have started production, with 11 more preparing to set up assembly lines, Ukrainian military officials announced this past Friday.

'Octopus' Technology Tested in Battlefield Conditions

These UAVs utilize a domestically developed system called “Octopus” designed to neutralize Iranian-made drones. This technology has been tested in combat and demonstrated successful “at night, amid electronic warfare and at low altitudes,” officials stated. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of producing up to 1,000 defensive drones each day.

Latest Assault on Kyiv Described as Deliberate

The Ukrainian president described Moscow's most recent assault on Ukraine as “deliberate, premeditated and brutal” following six individuals were killed and dozens wounded in a series of nocturnal attacks throughout Kyiv. Air raid sirens activated in Kyiv just after 12 AM this past Friday, with Shahed drones soon heard overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukrainian air defences.

The president stated the nation was hit by hundreds of UAVs and 18 missiles. Those killed were at home in a block of flats on Kyiv’s left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures were damaged, including the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.

Moscow's military have been launching hundreds of aerial bombs per day, with last month’s average daily usage standing at approximately 170, according to official military statistics.

Kyiv's Strikes Focus on Moscow's Energy Infrastructure

Moscow's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk temporarily suspended crude shipments on Friday – representing 2% of global supply – after a Ukrainian missile and drone attack. Ukraine’s general staff said its military had launched domestically produced missiles and deployed various types of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “within the framework of efforts to reduce the military and economic potential of the Russian aggressor.”

Ukraine additionally targeted a processing plant in the Saratov area and an energy depot in nearby Engels overnight.

International Restrictions Affect Russian Energy Company

The number two oil producer Lukoil said on Friday it is negotiating with potential buyers regarding its foreign assets following last month’s sanctions from Western nations and failure of a deal with the Gunvor trading house. “Final arrangements are to be disclosed once conclusive negotiations have been reached and the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained,” the company commented.

Ukrainian President Plans Diplomatic Trip to Spain

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to the city of Madrid, the Spanish capital, on Tuesday to meet with lawmakers following his visit to Paris, Spanish parliamentary officials announced. Zelenskyy will convene with deputies from both chambers of parliament during his visit, an official announcement confirmed.
