Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the ALCS.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.

"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total October home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he remarked.

The Blue Jays claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
