The Details Known Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Terror Attack
At least 16 people lost their lives and in excess of 40 were hurt when attackers shot at a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local police are describing as a terrorist attack.
As of the newest reports, officials have stated the death toll remains at 16, including one of the suspected gunmen. Additionally, 42 injured people were admitted to the hospital.
Those who died are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages span from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Reportedly a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a family member asked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She told the events leading up to the shooting, saying they were standing when the shooting started. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
In a statement, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.
One Child
A child who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many are still under care, with a number in a critical state. The injured comprise two officers who responded to the attack.
One of the injured is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he described the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
