Supporters Call for Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are calling for that a individual who breached a barrier and seized the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A viral video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account contains videos of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted security officers at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the popular stage show Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, winning a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
