Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be true Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.
Spurs conceded two goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight home defeat of the year.
But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.
However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions truly angered the manager.
"I heard some of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and jeered following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind each other going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period performance.
Former top-flight keeper Hart remarked that the second score was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," Hart added. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He's a excellent team player, he's a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.
"He was deeply involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario After the Game
Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
He said following the game that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second goal was a error of my own, I take responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult mountain to overcome."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on us to remain more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to reverse results. Today is a poor loss and it is hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly too occurred on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to target.
10 moments passed between Vicario exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was out of the box for ages," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the goal line. When none of them defended the net, my interest lit up somewhat.
"Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little additional time. After that it was solely about attempting to make the correct contact and place it on target. I had a positive sense, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager
Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to continue their home woes.
The match was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team record along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to play before the end of the season.
Only one of those wins have come after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to go against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can use to develop."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest averages on file in a single season (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has taken a high profile role at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
