Performer Refutes Anti-Vax Position After Lending His Voice To Controversial Coronavirus Documentary
The acclaimed actor has given his voice to a new documentary that challenges the efficacy of vaccines and lauds one-time cabinet secretary RFK Jr.
The Documentary's Contentious Origins
Titled "Plague of Corruption," the project is based on a well-known publication co-authored by a disgraced researcher, who gained notoriety during the health crisis for claims that the virus was linked to a bad strain of the influenza shot.
The publication's collaborator, the executive producer, has penned books with conspiracy-prone radio host a known commentator. He took to social media celebrating Neeson's role in the documentary.
A Firm Statement
Representatives for Liam Neeson have issued a statement strongly denying suggestions that he supports anti-vax beliefs.
"Everyone can acknowledge that misconduct may occur within the medical sector, but that should never be confused with being against vaccines," the response reads. "Neeson never has been, and is not, anti-vaccination. His extensive work with the UN children's agency highlights his enduring support for public-health initiatives."
The response added that the star was not involved in crafting the film's narrative and that questions about its content are best addressed to the producers.
Major Claims Featured in the Film
In the film, the script provided by Neeson makes several provocative statements:
- It claims that pro-immunization voices have called for "blind obedience" to government bodies.
- It declares that "medical science has become deeply politicized."
- RFK Jr is featured saying, "The major issue with vaccines is that they simply are not safely tested."
- It also criticizes pandemic restrictions, arguing they caused severe distress that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- Regarding the immunizations, it references a view that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "risky trials."
Previous Controversy and Current Issues
The documentary further cites a 2004 BBC documentary about HIV drug testing on children, which was later the focus of a BBC apology by the corporation for editorial breaches.
In recent weeks, Kennedy instructed the CDC to alter its official position that there is no causal relationship between immunizations and autism spectrum disorder. This claim is repeated in the documentary, even with a recent study from the World Health Organisation confirming no such link has been found.
A Previous Statement of Support
Differing from the documentary's message, Neeson has in the past shown clear advocacy for vaccines in his position as a Unicef global ambassador.
In 2022, he called vaccines as "an extraordinary achievement," adding that "The conversation about vaccines in recent years has lost sight of how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest human endeavors in our history."
"Plague of Corruption" ends with Neeson's narration proclaiming, "This isn't the finish of our story. This is the beginning of a new chapter."
