Heavy Downpours Worsen Circumstances for Uprooted Gazans, UN Caution
Persistent rains over the past week have compounded the already dire living conditions of the vast number of uprooted residents in the region, as stated by aid groups.
"Awful" Night Poses Grave Risks
A representative detailed the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with precipitation so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the ground.
"The recent weather was really difficult for the residents. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the winds were so forceful," said the official.
There is extreme anxiety that children living in tents in wet clothing will contract hypothermia and additional illnesses.
Casualties and Significant Damage
Medical officials have stated that one baby has died from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have lost their lives in building collapses due to the severe weather.
Additional accounts indicate a higher number of casualties. Officials stated that several homes had fully given way and dozens had been partly destroyed.

Assistance Distribution Seen as Inadequate
Agencies have escalated deliveries of tarpaulins, warm covers and garments since the halt in hostilities began, but they have said there is still not enough aid getting in.
"Officials are operating tirelessly to provide that relief and to hand it out, but the size of the requirements is so immense that we continue to see a great number of individuals and minors who are truly struggling every night," stated one official.
Ongoing Challenges and Ceasefire Plans
The next stage of the agreement involves plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the pullback of personnel, and other terms.
Humanitarian groups have underscored the imperative for "greater and continuous aid to respond to urgent and long-term needs."
The war was triggered by an attack in late 2023. Subsequent campaigns have caused a high number of casualties in the area, according to medical data.
