American Military Executes Deadly Attack in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities

According to a senior defense spokesperson, the American military executed a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Context and Recent Strikes

The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Just on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Defends Actions Amidst Pressure

The administration has encountered growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of legal military action.

Although the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to suggest a broader geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's sitting leadership.
