Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
